Received via Email from Nicholas of PFLAG
Good evening and salutations!
I have to tell you, I'm really excited to be sending out this email, as there's some really exciting news to share. However, like the mean teacher I should be, I'm going to make you wait until the very end before I tell you anything. Muahaha! (You're one of the smart kids and just scrolled to the bottom, didn't you? Tsk, tsk.)
First, because it's so soon and I'd really like to see a bountiful showing of PFLAG members, DRAG QUEEN BINGO is TOMORROW NIGHT! That's right... Hurricane Summers and Terri Vanessa Coleman will be hosting and there's sure to be tons of fun. All proceeds to benefit one of our favorite local organizations (and not just because we helped form it) Louisville Youth Group. 7 PM at Connections (in the theater -- you have to enter through the side door) and it's $15 to play.
Speaking of a bountiful showing of PFLAG members, there's another event that's coming up that's truly important to me and to our community. Reverend Dee Dale of Metropolitan Community Church is retiring this year after more than 30 years (and countless hours) of service to the church, the LGBT community and the City of Louisville. I'd love to see everyone at Rev. Dee's final Sunday service, held Sunday, August 28 at 10:30 AM.
This month's PFLAG Louisville meeting will be held on Sunday, August 21 from 3 until 5 in the afternoon. This month Voices of Kentuckiana will stop by for a short time and tell us about a volunteer opportunity they have for us. Please come by, listen to how we can help another group, enjoy some refreshments and then take part in the camaraderie. Promises to be a good time with lovely people. (I believe we'll be discussing board elections, so come put in your $.02!)
If you'd like to get involved in the planning process for Transgender Week of Awareness and Transgender Day of Remembrance, there will be a meeting on August 17 at 7:30 at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Contact Holly Knight, President of Sienna, for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You know we LOVE Sienna, Louisville's Trans support organization, and their next meeting will be held on the Saturday before our own meeting, which makes August's meeting fall on the 20th. Contact Holly (email above) for the details.
Finally, the exciting news! PFLAG Louisville will be having a silent auction to benefit the Bruce and Margaret Lincoln Scholarship Fund! On Saturday, November 5, 2011, Douglass Boulevard Christian Church will host the first ever PFLAG Louisville Silent Auction from 5 - 8 PM. Our Volunteer Intern (and past scholarship recipient), Lindsay Ferguson, is busy organizing and putting everything together for this event. Attached is a letter requesting donations -- if you or someone you know would like to donate a product, gift certificate or service to be auctioned off, please contact Lindsay. Or, if you'd like to volunteer or have questions about the event, you can reply to this or email Lindsay at email@example.com. Please spread the word and help make this event a success! The Facebook event page can be found here.
Much love for you.
