The name Sienna was adopted because it is nondescript, and like so many who are transgender, forced live our lives in the shadows of our society.
Our transgender
support group got its start in the late 1980’s as the Louisville Gender Society. In the intervening years the name has changed. Our group has gone under the name of the “Bluegrass Belles” and “BGB.” To embrace the wider trans-community (MtF, FtM, CD, TV, TS, Intersex), and to welcome their participation in our group we are now Sienna.
In the fast changing world, the Internet has been a place were many in the transgender community get there start, using chat-rooms and community boards to get in touch with like minded people. We at Sienna feel face-to-face meeting as a group, and one-on-one exchanges can help anyone questioning their gender by seeing firsthand and speaking to adults with experiences that parallel their own.
Sienna opens its membership to anyone who feels the binary roles of being strictly male or female does not apply to them. We also invite supportive partners, health care professionals, and member of the general public to attend.
Currently, Sienna has taken a little bit of a new direction. We are going toward a more social group that uses social activities to educate people about what transgender is and maybe more what transgender isn't. If you want to know more about our activities there is a link at: ACTIVITIES
